Hi there, my name is Pakornkiat Limpiyapong, but my friends call me ‘Noom’.
I am a luthier based in the Brisbane suburb of The Gap.
I was taught the ancient art of guitar making back in my homeland -- Thailand -- where I apprenticed in the workshop of revered Bangkok luthier Wiroon Songbundit.
Working with Wiroon, I made my first handmade guitar in 2005. It was a classical guitar crafted with Mahogany with European Spruce and it was beautiful. It took me three months to complete and every facet of the build had me transfixed. I knew then that I had found the thing I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
I opened my own custom guitar making and repair business in Chiang Mai in 2006 and in a relatively short time the business was thriving. It was certainly difficult to leave my loyal customer-base when I moved to Australia in 2015, but falling in love will make you do crazy things!
With 17 years of guitar crafting now under my belt, I have gained a deep understanding of the craft. My process is a lot faster now too. These days crafting a guitar from scratch takes me about four weeks.
My clients are musicians, collectors and, well, anyone who appreciates a beautiful instrument with gorgeous tone that has been made with exceptional attention to detail.
I love that even after all of these years I am still learning about guitars. Every guitar I make teaches me new lessons.
